PHOTOS: Seven Ghanaians involved as Simba pip Azam in Tanzanian league

Simba SC overcame Azam FC in the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League on Wednesday with as many as seven Ghanaian players featuring.

It could have been eight but for former Ebusua Dwarfs striker Nicholas Gyan who was an unused substitute for league leaders Simba SC.

Kwasi Asante, who later emerged man-of the-match for Simba SC, was deployed at left-back while James Kotei also played full game in centre-back position.

For Azam, head coach Cioaba Aristica had five Ghanaian players at his disposal. The Romanian opted to start recent signing Bernard Arthur from the bench. The other quartet – goalkeeper Razak Abalora, Daniel Amoah, Yakubu Mohammed and Enock Atta-Agyei played full throttle.

Arthur, the former Liberty Professionals striker, got 19 minutes of the derby after coming on in the second half of the top-of-the-table clash at the National Stadium in Dar es Salam.

Uganda’s Emmanuel Okwi scored the only goal of the encounter.

Simba extend their lead at the top to 41 points while Yanga who also won their matchday 17 fixture move up and push Azam to third position.
