Accra Stadium: Scoreboard to be fixed as renovation works finally begin

Coupbay Ghana Limited, Wednesday, officially began renovation works on the Accra Sports Stadium.

As earlier published, a structural integrity assessment carried out by AESL on behalf of the Sports Ministry few years back cost the repair works at 12.5 million Ghana cedis (consultancy fee inclusive).

Speaking at the sod-cutting for the much advertised rehabilitation works on the oldest sporting edifice in the country, Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah said that Coupbay was chosen following a tendering process.

“After all the tendering processes, Coupbay Ghana Limited, has been engaged to undertake the Phase One Rehabilitation of selected structures of the Accra Sports Stadium,” he stated.

 

The scope of work in the contract for this project include:

  • re-roofing of the VIP lounge
  • replacement of damaged steel stands and separators, defective bolts in bottling systems to steel structural members at the Orange and VIP stands
  • Coating and painting of structural steel members with appropriate protection chemicals/paints and
  • repairs of scoreboard

The Sports Minister assured that the Accra Sports Stadium will be made available to host the 2018 Africa Women’s Championship.

“We are aware that Ghana will be hosting the Africa Women’s Championship between November and December and my Ministry will put in the necessary effort to ensure the successful completion of the renovation works as scheduled.”

Coupbay Ghana Limited have a September 2018 deadline to complete works on the first phase of the Accra Sports Stadium rehabilitation.
