Caf CL: Kwasi Appiah urges Aduana to improve finishing skills

Ghana national team coach, Kwasi Appiah, says the country’s surviving reps in the Caf inter-club competitions, Aduana Stars must work on finishing of opponents if they are to go all the way in the Champions League.

The Black Stars boss watched the side’s preliminary round second leg game at home to Al-Tahadi, a game which saw the inch closer to the group stage after winning 2-0.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Aduana struggled up front against the Libyans in the first half of the game at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Park. They finally found the breakthrough goal in the 53rd minute courtesy midfielder Elvis Opoku’s strike. Aduana later sealed qualification through striker Derrick Sasraku.

Offering his thoughts after the match, coach Appiah expressed concerns about the team’s potency and wants them to work on improving before their next game in the competition.

“I think Aduana Stars did well tactically [against Al-Tahadi] but I think they missed some chances and would need to improve ahead of the next round,” he told reporters.

“I know the coach [Yussif Abubakar] is doing well but he will have to make sure that going forward, he can improve his team. The next game won’t be easy but they can make it with proper preparations and discipline,” Kwasi Appiah added.

Aduana Stars have a tough task against Algerian giants ES Setif in the Caf Champions League last qualifying round to the group stage popularly known as the Money Zone. The Ghanaians host the first leg in Dormaa on March 7 while the return fixture is scheduled for the weekend of 16-18 March.

ES Setif knocked out Olympic Real de Bangui of Central African Republic with a 6-0 score line over two legs.
