2018 World Cup: Egypt to do “something special” – Salah

Egypt forward Mohamed Salah is confident the Pharaohs can do “something special” at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia this summer.

The swift midfielder led the seven-time Africa champions to their first World Cup since 1990. Coupled with his blistering start to the season with Liverpool, Salah was named 2017 African Player of the Year Thursday night.

The former AS Roma and Chelsea player expressed his happiness after aiding his country to qualify for the World Cup.

He said: “We [Egypt] have a good national team and we did very well at the Afcon 2017 and qualified for the Fifa World Cup.

“I’m very happy for this achievement and I am very sure Egypt can do something special at the World Cup,” Salah said at a press conference prior to his unveiling as the 2017 Player of the Year at the International Conference Center in Accra.

At the World Cup, Egypt finds themselves in Group A, where they come up against hosts Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
