Ghana fail to qualify for CHAN for the second successive time

Ghana will not be competing at the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) once again after succumbing to a shock 2-1 loss at home to Burkina Faso on Sunday.

After an impressive 2-2 draw in the first leg of the qualifiers to the 2018 edition, the Black Stars ‘B’ welcomed the local Stallions at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi needing to avoid any kind of defeat but the team failed.

Burkina Faso sent early signals of not being pushovers by hitting the back of the net as early as the 8th minute through an effort from Sylla Mohammed who also scored in the Ouagadougou encounter.

The visitors went on to double the advantage courtesy a Nikiema Herman 20 minutes later.

Ghana huffed and puffed in their chase for a comeback but could only do with a consolation goal from substitute Felix Addo.

The Burkina win the tie 4-2 on aggregate to deny Ghana a ticket to another CHAN tournament after failing to qualify for the 2016 edition in Rwanda.

The 2018 CHAN billed for Kenya comes off from January 11 to February 2, 2018.
