Grant predicts strong Cranes challenge

Coach of the Black Stars, Avram Grant has revealed his respect for the Cranes of Uganda ahead of Friday’s World Cup Qualifier.

The Black Stars welcome the Cranes to begin the qualifiers to secure a spot in Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup finals at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Friday.

The Black Stars began preparations on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday led by Coach Avram Grant. The Israeli who is poised of ensuring another appearance for Ghana at the biggest football gathering to make it a fourth successive time foresees a resilient Ugandan side.

“We need to be tough mentally ahead of this game. Every game is important and this game is no exception,” Grant told the media during the team’s training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.”

The Black Stars lost their last encounter by 1-0 against Uganda in Kampala when the sides met in November 2014 in an Africa Nations Cup 2015 qualifier under Maxwell Konadu.

The former Chelsea FC and West Ham United manager who is not ready to take chances against Milutin Sredojevic’s side believes the best must come from his team to ensure a first win in the group.

Uganda is a strong side. I have monitored them for a while and they play good football so we need to do our possible best to win.

“It is not going to be an easy game because they will be coming to get a good result,” he added.

Ghana lies in Group E with Uganda, Egypt and Congo to battle for the only slot to Russia 2018 World Cup.
