U-20 AFCON: Heavy rain forces Ghana-Ethiopia qualifier to be postponed

Heavy rains, Sunday, caused the postponement of Ghana’s 2017 Africa U-20 Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Cape Coast.

The Black Satellites were to host their Ethiopian counterparts in the second leg of the ongoing qualifiers at the newly constructed Cape Coast Stadium.

But the torrential rains across the coastal areas of the country denied the game from even kicking off at the 4pm scheduled time. The match was subsequently rescheduled as the field had been rendered unplayable by the downpour.

A reinforced Ghana side were in high spirits to overturn a 1-2 deficit from the first leg played a fortnight ago.

Two defensive errors handed Ame Mohammed a brace against Ghana in the opening 10 minutes of the first leg in Addis Ababa but Jonathan Osabutey gave the coach Mas-Ud Dramani some hope before the reverse fixture as he pulled one back late on in the game.

The Black Satellites are at home needing a minimum 1-0 victory in Cape Coast but will now have to wait for Monday to try and advance to the final round of the qualifiers to the Zambia 2017 championship.

The game has now been rescheduled for Monday June 13, 2016 with kickoff set for 12pm.

The team to advance will face either Tunisia or Senegal in the final qualification phase later in July.
