Caf CC: Medeama play Libya’s Al-Ittihad in Round 16

Ghana’s sole representative in African club football, Medeama SC finally have their opponents for the  2016 CAF Confederation Cup round 16 encounter determined.

Al Ittihad of Libya are the opponents to play the MTN FA Cup winners after qualifying on a 5-4 aggregate scoreline over Niger’s AS Sonidep after two legs. The side from Tripoli suffered a 3-1 defeat to Sonidep in Sudan but triumphed on a better goal aggregate after thrashing AS Sonidep in the first leg by 4-1.

The game which should have been played a week ago was rescheduled for last weekend and Ittihad have managed to advance to face the Yellow and Mauves who drew a bye in the first qualifying round.

Ittihad scored in the opening 10 minutes through Ahmed Alzowi but Sonidep came strongly to score three goals in the last 23 minutes causing a scare for the Libyan side with goals coming in the 67th, 85th and 90th minutes

Medeama SC now have a date with the Libyan outfit with the first leg coming on in Tripoli on 20th March with the return fixture slated for Ghana a fortnight later.
