Debutant Aziz Yakubu goal leads Wuhan Three Crowns to Chinese Super Cup title

Abdul-Aziz Yakubu made a scoring debut as Chinese Super League champions Wuhan Three Crowns exhibited their supremacy by defeating FA Cup winners Shandong Taishan 2-0 on Saturday to lift the CFA Super Cup trophy for the very first time.

Wuhan broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with the Ghana striker – who arrived on loan from Portuguese side Rio Ave last month – scoring a free header at the goalmouth.

Shandong created several chances during the first half but they were all denied by Wuhan goalkeeper Liu Dianzuo.

Xie Pengfei extended Wuhan’s lead with a low shot in the 56th minute.

Shandong almost pulled one back in the 81st minute, but Liu Binbin’s goal was canceled by VAR for offside.

Shandong forward Son Jun-ho was sent off for an awful tackle on Davidson in the 88th minute.

Abdul-Aziz Yakubu was later named man of the match.
