Afcon 2019: Ahmed Musa poised to do it for “Big Boss” Keshi

When Nigeria face Cameroon in the Round of 16 stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), Ahmed Musa will be featuring in his second senior continental knockout with the Super Eagles.

In his first appearance in 2013, the West African giants beat Burkina Faso 1-0, claiming their third crown with former head coach Stephen Keshi at the helm of affairs.

The “Big Boss” died in 2016 after suffering from a heart attack.

On Saturday June 7 when the Eagles clash in another epic encounter against the Indomitable Lions, it will be exactly three years since Keshi found rest.

Musa, a pivotal member of the 2013 winning squad, says a win and going all the way for the ultimate is best way to honour Keshi.

“If we win the title, I am going to dedicate it to the late Stephen Keshi because he was like a father to me.

“It’s not that easy losing someone so special to you and the memories I have left of him are like a motivator,” he told reporters at the pre-match press conference.

Coach Gernot Rohr’s charges suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat against Madagascar in their last group match but had earlier sealed qualification to the next stage with 1-0 wins against Burundi and Guinea.

Nigeria play Cameroon at the Alexandria Stadium at 16.00 GMT.
