South Africa left frustrated as Angola call off pre-Afcon friendly
South Africa’s proposed warm-up friendly with Angola has been cancelled by their opponents, a blow for coach Stuart Baxter in his preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The South African Football Association revealed the news on Wednesday, saying the Angolans had cited a lack of training time since they arrived in Egypt.
It means that Baxter’s side will have had just one fixture before their opening match of the tournament against Ivory Coast on Monday, which was a 0-0 draw with Ghana at the weekend.
Baxter had bemoaned a chaotic build-up to the tournament in terms fixing matches, and will be even more disappointed now that one of the two that were planned have fallen away.
Bafana also face Namibia (June 28) and Morocco (July 1) in their pool
