Afcon 2019: ‘Soliman fit for Egypt-Zimbabwe opener’

Hosts Egypt have midfielder Waldi Soliman declared fit for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Zimbabwe Friday night.

The Ahly star suffered a minor injury in the Pharaohs pre-tourney friendly win over Guinea and was subbed off after for Mohammed Salah in the 61st minute.

The 34-year-old limped through the game, raising several concerns over his fitness ahead of Friday’s showdown.

But Egypt team manager Ihab Leheta has played down injury worries, declaring that the winger will be ready for the Warriors.

“Walid Soliman had an X-ray the next day, and it turned out that he is fit and doesn’t have a problem,” Leheta told Time Sports.

“He took part in the physical exercises on Tuesday morning and then participated in the training session on the evening of the same day,” he added.

Soliman, who has only 25 caps to his name, is set to feature in his first-ever Afcon tournament after being left out of the 2008, 2010, and 2017 squads.
