Benin down Mauritania 3-1 in Afcon test match

Ghana’s opening match opponents, Benin continued their impressive pre-2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) form with a 3-1 victory over fellow qualifiers Mauritania Tuesday night.

Huddersfield Town forward Steve Mounié bagged a hat-trick for the Squirrels in the warm-up match played in Moroccan city, Marrakech.

Mounié, whose club were relegated from the English Premier League last season, gave the Squirrels a 1-0 halftime lead.

Moctar el Hacen levelled just after the break from a penalty only for Mounié to score twice more in the final warm-up match for both countries.

Benin are in Group F with defending champions Cameroon, Ghana and Guinea-Bissau while Mauritania face Angola, Mali and Tunisia in Group E.

The Ghana-Benin Afcon opener is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25.
