Caf CC: AS Vita beat Raja to top Group A

AS Vita moved top of 2018 Caf Confederations Cup Group A following a 2-0 win over Raja Casablanca at the Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Fabrice Luamba Ngoma and Jean-Marc Makusu Mundele within the space of nine second-half minutes secured all three points for the Democratic Republic of Congo giants and subsequently booked their place in the knockout stages.

Victory moves the DRC side onto 10 points after five matches, two more than their Moroccan counterparts and four more than ASEC Mimosas who eliminated Aduana Stars with victory in Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Black Dolphins head to Abidjan on matchday six knowing that they have already booked their place in the quarterfinals, but will have to beat ASEC if they are to be guaranteed of holding onto top spot.

Raja are at home to Aduana who will only be playing for pride in Casablanca as the Green Eagles aim to keep their hopes of reaching the last eight alive.

Ngoma opened the scoring for Vita Club five minutes into the second half with a rasping left-footed shot from long range.

The hosts didn’t have to wait long to double their lead as Mundele found the back of the net in the 59th minute following a swift counter-attack. The forward received the ball outside the area and weaved past a static Raja defender, before firing home.
