Pinnick replaces Nyantakyi as Caf 1st Vice-President

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Melvin Amaju Pinnick has been appointed new 1st Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

The position became vacant in June after Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned after being indicted in a sting operation unraveling corruption in Ghana football by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

A Caf communique announcing Pinnick’s appointment said its President, Dr. Ahmad, consulted members of the African football governing body’s emergency committee of his nomination.

“The Caf President, after consulting with members of the emergency committee, has appointed Melvin Amaju Pinnick as Caf 1st Vice President.

“The decision is immediately applicable, in accordance with article 27 para 2 of the statutes, which will be ratified by the executive committee in their session scheduled for 27 and 28 September 2018,” the statement read in part.

Until his latest appointment, Amaju Pinnick, an Executive Committee member, was also serving as Chairman for the Africa Cup of Nations and Media Committees.

Pinnick, who is also a member of Fifa’s Organization Committee for competitions, is currently serving as a Match Commissioner at the ongoing 2018 World Cup in Russia.
