Egypt to renew Hector Cuper contract

African giants Egypt have announced that national team coach Hector Cuper’s contract will be renewed before they kick off their campaign at the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The Argentine’s current deal with the Pharaohs ends after the World Cup and the football governing body’s intention to extend his contract has been circulating in the local media.

Cuper began his national team duties in 2015 and has qualified Egypt to the world’s biggest football competition for the first time in 28 years, beating Ghana who were deemed as the favourites to seal a ticket for Russia.

He reached the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals after the team failed to qualify on three successive attempts.

“I agreed with Cuper to extend his deal and it is expected to happen before the Kuwait friendly,” EFA President Hany Abou-Rida told a local radio station.

“There are no issues with extending the agreement with Cuper and his entire coaching staff will stay as well.”

The North Africans will line up against Kuwait on May 25, meet Colombia on June 1 and Belgium on June 7 ahead of the global tournament.

They will play Uruguay, Russia and Saudi Arabia in Group A next month in Russia.
