Caf CC: Aduana drawn against former African champions

Ghana’s Aduana Stars have been drawn against former African champions ASEC Mimosas, AS Vita Club and Raja Casablanca in Group A of the 2018 Caf Confederation Cup.

The 2018 Caf Confederation Cup group stage is scheduled to be played from May 6 to August 29, 2018 with a total of 16 teams competing to decide the eight places in the knockout stage.

Aduana, the Ghanaian champions and first-timers in the competition, will kick off their campaign away to ASEC Mimosas in neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire.

They travel to face ASEC who have former Ghana Premier League stars Amed Toure and Komlan Agbegniadan in their ranks at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan – just a 310km (192mile) distance by road from their Dormaa Ahenkro base – on Sunday, May 6.

For their first home game in Group A, Aduana are scheduled to welcome Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca at the Nana Ageman Badu I (NAB 1) Stadium on Wednesday, May 16.

The Confederation Cup will then take a break for the 2018 Fifa World Cup and return in July with Aduana hosting DR Congo’s AS Vita Club on the 18th.

The draw held in Cairo on Saturday was headlined by East African trio, Rayon Sport (Rwanda), Young Africans (Tanzania) and Gor Mahia (Kenya) drawn in the same group, D. The regionals rivals, will battle each other for a place at the knockout stage of the second-tier continental club championship.

Group B has RS Berskane (Morocco), Al Masry (Egypt), UD Songo (Mozambique) and El Hilal (Sudan) with two-time African champions, Enyimba (Nigeria), debutants Williamsville (Cote d’Ivoire), CARA (Congo) and Djoliba (Mali) housed in Group C.
