Gyan, Wiyaala, Grace Ashy to collaborate on 2018 Women’s Afcon song

Ghana’s male national team skipper Asamoah Gyan will star in the official anthem for the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Gyan is teaming up with female artistes Noella Wiyaala and Grace Ashy for the 13th edition of the continent’s topmost women’s football competition.

The 2018 Women’s Afcon is scheduled to be hosted by Ghana come November 17 to December 1 in two cities – Accra and Cape Coast.

At a launch and fund-raising program for the Afcon held by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in Accra last Friday, Chairperson Hon. Freda Prempeh said:

“In other to whip up interest before, during and hopefully after the tournament, the LOC will be engaging the general public in various activities including ‘Women Only’ Jama competition, quizzes, exhibitions etc. from time to time, we will be rolling out some of our projects.

“Very soon, we will be outdooring our mascot for the tournament and subsequently, we will outdoor our official theme song.

“…[Noella] Wiyaala and our own [Black Stars captain] Asamoah Gyan is also part of the official song team. He said that is what he can also do for the women. So he is going to sing along with Wiyaala and Grace Ashy,” Hon. Prempeh announced.

The 32-year-old, widely known for his musical prowess, had taken a backstage since the disappearance of his partner and close friend Castro in a Jet Ski accident in July 2014. He however broke his duck this month (March 2018) in a new joint titled ‘Dirty Enemies’ with popular Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.

Gyan, who plays for Turkish side Kayserispor, is now on to the next song, a continental one for women’s football with award-winning afro pop singer Wiyaala and gospel artiste Grace Ashy who has been the voice behind all the famous cheer songs for Ghana’s national teams.

The 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will have eight teams chasing for laurels and tickets to next year’s Fifa World Cup in France. It has been themed ‘Proud of our own, we can do it!.’
