Fifa Ranking: Ghana lose Top 50 spot

Ghana dropped four places to 54th in the world according to the latest Fifa ranking released by the football governing body on Thursday.

The Black Stars were 50th in the world with 659 points in January but now have 596 points from the figures for the February edition.

Ghana’s senior men’s team have been inactive since their home draw against Egypt in the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers in November last year. It is believed this lack of activity has contributed to the significant drop in rankings.

The Black Stars, however, remain eighth in Africa, where Tunisia, Senegal, DR Congo, 2018 Chan champions Morocco, Egypt, Cameroon and Nigeria make up the continent’s top seven countries.

Burkina Faso and Algeria fill up the 9th and 10th spots in Africa.

Meanwhile, World-Cup bound Iceland, who could play Ghana in an international friendly soon, were the biggest movers, collecting a total of 1017 points to move up to 18th in the world.

Germany remain the number one ranked country with Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium completing the Top 5.

The next Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on 15 March 2018.
