Pre-World Cup Friendly: Nigeria to host Poland in March 2018

World Cup bound Nigeria have an agreement in principle to play an international friendly against Poland in March next year.

This has been revealed by Super Eagles head coach Gernt Rohr.

Speaking to French website football365, the German tactician explained that the Europeans are capable of providing his team similar opposition that World Cup group opponents Croatia could pose at Russia 2018.

“Our first opponent [at the World Cup] will be Croatia. The match will take place in Kaliningrad, an eccentric place with a bit of jet lag and a former German city that I already know a bit.

“Croatia is capable of great things with a team of stars playing in the biggest clubs. They are able to beat the biggest, but also to be surprised by less prestigious teams. It will be up to us to question them. Their technical qualities are huge but we also have a quality game.

“This is the most important match, and we hope to prepare it, against opponents similar to Croatia. So we will play Poland at home on March 23rd,” Rohr explained.

“We are looking for a second opponent in Europe for another FIFA date of the spring,” he added.

Nigeria have been drawn against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in Group D of the 2018 World Cup. The friendly is expected to be beneficial for both sides as Poland also have African opponents Senegal in the World Cup group.
