AFCON 2017: Gyan earns plaudits from Grant

Head coach Avram Grant has showered praise on captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan for his excellent and impressive display for both club and country.

Gyan scored the first goal for the Black Stars with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in a pre-tournament friendly with Uzbekistan side Bunyodkor on Tuesday.

Grant is convinced the former Liberty Professionals player is one of the best in Africa and has an incredible eye for goal – a trait which will help the Black Stars in the Afcon to finally end the 35-year drought without a trophy.

“[Asamoah] Gyan is an amazing striker. Take a look at his stats compared to the minute he scores and the minute he plays in his career is amazing.
“I’m not surprise at this, he knows how to do it and how to put the ball to the net and this is why he is one of the best strikers on the world for the last 10 years,” Grant said.

Asamoah has had the past two seasons blighted with series of injuries which has seen his club Shanghai SIPG loan him over to UAE side Al Ahly Dubai.

However, he still remains the top scorer for the national with 49 goals to his credit.
