Barnsley want Yiadom departure for Ghana camp delayed till Jan. 7

Barnsley are hoping new Black Stars boy Andy Yiadom can delay till January 7 before he joins the Black Stars camp for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Championship side wants him to be involved in the FA Cup match at Blackpool on January 7 before he’s allowed to join his Ghana teammates in the UAE for their pre-tournament camp.

Reds head coach Paul Heckingbottom said:”That’s the communication we have sent back and we’re waiting for their response. It’s a blow for us because he’s played nearly every game and he’s really improved. But we have to accept it because we want to improve players and the consequence of that can be international recognition. We would rather have it like that and Yids definitely deserves it.”

It is yet unclear if the GFA have given permission for Yiadom to stay till January 7 before joining up with the squad. Black Stars coach Avram Grant is expected to submit a final 23-man squad on Thursday, after naming an initial 26 players for the UAE training camp.
