AFCON 2017Q: ‘We will not underrate Mozambique’

Assistant coach of Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu is confident Ghana will secure victory against Mozambique in Thursday’s clash, noting that they underrate the visitors at their own peril.

The Black Stars will battle the Mambas of Mozambique in the first leg tie of the 2017 African Cup of Nations double qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium, before they trek to honour the second leg in three days’ time.

Abel Xavier’s men are expected to come into the game as wounded lions having suffered two defeats against Rwanda and Mauritius.

But speaking on Metro TV, Konadu a former Asante Kotoko trainer indicated that he and his boss Avram Grant have mapped up workable strategies to unlock the plans of their opponents.

‘’Most of their players play in Portugal and one is in China. They’ve a couple of good players. Coming here they need to win at all cost to brighten their chances.

“I think that if they are coming to Ghana to play the Black Stars, they will plan to stay back and hit us on the counter. That is what I think they will do, but we have put in place strategies that can unlock the counter attacks they would want to play here. So we just hope that our boys will get themselves together and give us their best.’’

The two sides have met four times but Mozambique are yet to record a victory over Ghana.
