CAF CC: Medeama progress 2-1 on aggregate over Ittihad

Medeama SC have advanced to the round of 16 stage of the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Al Ittihad Tripoli on Sunday.

The Mauve and Yellows who lost the opening leg by a goal to nil, scored twice in the first half through striker Abass Mohammed to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate. Abass recorded both goals on 12 and 39 minutes.

The Ghanaians survived a late scare after Ahmed Zuway’s header from a Habel cross was flagged for an offside by assistant referee Houha Bongura.

Referee Dauda Guaye had to rescind his goal decision after noticing the hoisted flag of his Senegalese colleague.

The MTN FA Cup Champions will now play Sudan’s Al Ahly Shendi in the next round. Medeama play away in the first leg scheduled for the weekend of 8th-10th April while the reverse fixture will be played at the Essipong Sports Stadium on April 20.

Al Ahly Shendi qualified on a 2-2 aggregate courtesy the away goal rule over DR Congo outfit FC St Eloi Lupopo. They won 1-0 in Sudan after losing the first leg by 2-1 in DR Congo to progress.
