AWCON 2016: Ghana-Nigeria rivalry not our focus – Super Falcons coach

Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi has stated that her charges are obsessed with securing just another victory at the Women’s Nations Cup when they face Ghana and not on past rivalry between the sides.

The Super Falcons confront the Black Queens of in a second group match at the on-going African Women Nations Cup on Wednesday.

“We will take the Ghanaians the same way we treated Mali,” Omagbemi told reporters after training Tuesday.

“I hear their coach [Yusif Basigi] is talking about the rivalry between the two countries, but we are not seeing it from that angle. We just want to beat them and move on,” she added.

Both teams won their opening group game on Sunday and a victory for either side guarantees them a place in the semifinal. Nigeria thrashed Mali 6-0 while Ghana came from behind to defeat Kenya 3-1.

The stage is set once again at the hilltop Omisports Stadium, in Limbe, a tourist destination in Cameroon with Ghana’s Black Queens in high hopes of deflating their high-flying neighbours.

Kickoff is at 3pm.
