Aduana Stars dumped out of Caf Champions League

Aduana Stars’ Caf Champions League ‘Money Zone’ dream got ended after suffering a 4-0 hammering at the hands of former winners ES Sétif.

Aduana, leading 1-0 from the first leg, were hopeful of causing a stir away at the empty Stade du 08 Mai 1945 in Algeria but it turned out a nightmare defeat on Sunday.

Two goals from Mourad Benayad in the first half (28’ and 45+3’) saw Sétif turn the tie in their favour in a controversial manner after Burkinabe referee Juste Ephrem ZIO controversially allowed Benayad’s second goal stand despite the player clearly aiding the ball into the net with his hand.

Two minutes after the hour mark, Abdelkader Bedrane made it 3-0 for ES Sétif – he tucked home at the end of a beautiful team work which shredded the Aduana backline into pieces.

Abdelhakim Amokrane then put the icing on the game with the fourth goal for ES Sétif deep into additional time.

Aduana’s run in the 22nd edition of the Caf Champions League thus comes to a halt after a 4-1 aggregate defeat.

The Dormaa-based side however remain in Africa as they, together with fifteen other eliminated clubs from the premier continental club competition, drop to the group stage playoffs of the Confederation Cup.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) will hold the draw for the playoffs on Wednesday, 21 March 2018 in Cairo.
