Thirteen (13) years after successfully hosting the Men’s FIFA World Cup, South Africa have expressed interest in hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
South Africa are among the nations that have submitted bids to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
A statement by FIFA on the 2027 Women’s World Cup bidding rights revealed South Africa is among the four other bids for the women’s tournament.
The African champions will battle Belgium who have a joint bid with the Netherlands and Germany. US and Mexico are also hoping to host the competition jointly.
Brazil are the other country proposing to stage the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
South Africa are the only country on the continent to have hosted the men’s edition of the FIFA World Cup and are hoping to be successful in their bid to host the women’s showpiece as well.
The host(s) for the football fiesta will be decided on May 17, 2024.
