Ghana XI vs Guinea-Bissau: Boye returns, Aidoo and Owusus start

Experienced defender John Boye is back in Ghana’s starting lineup to face Guinea-Bissau after serving a one-match suspension.

The centre-back was sent off in the Black Stars’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations opening match which ended 2-2.

Boye however returns to meet the absence of his partner Kassim Adams who is also out on yellow card accumulation. Jonathan Mensah who enjoyed an excellent performance after replacing Boye for the 0-0 draw with Cameroon, has failed to shake off a knock and will play no part in the Tuesday afternoon encounter.

With the unavailability of the duo, head coach Kwasi Appiah has had to fall on KRC Genk centre-back Joseph Aidoo to partner Boye. It will be Aidoo’s debut game at the Afcon.

Appiah however maintained his central midfield pair of Mubarak Wakaso and Thomas Partey.

However, following Christian Atsu’s Afcon-ending hamstring injury, youngster Samuel Owusu gets to enjoy a third run but his first start on the right wing for Ghana at the ongoing tournament.

Inter Milan star Kwadwo Asamoah meanwhile returns to the sidelines with coach Appiah preferring to start another youngster Kwabena Owusu on the left wing. The Leganes attacker made a bright cameo in Ghana’s last game against Cameroon, see his effort canon off the woodwork late in the game.

Captain Andre Ayew continues his role behind younger brother Jordan who also maintains his position as the Black Stars’ lead striker.

The game kicks off 16:00 GMT.
