Afcon 2019: Appiah ready to tinker with Ghana XI vs Cameroon

Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah says there will be no problem tinkering with his starting eleven for Saturday’s crucial clash with Cameroon in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars must win or at least avoid defeat when they face the Indomitable Lions in their second Group F match at the Ismailia Stadium before traveling to Suez to complete their group stage fixtures against Guinea-Bissau on July 2.

Appiah’s choice XI came under massive scrutiny when he dropped and failed to fall on big boys like Kwadwo Asamoah, Baba Rahman and Kwadwo Asamoah in the 2-2 tournament opening draw with Benin last Tuesday.

Speaking ahead of his side’s second game, the Ghana trainer maintained he his team is always open to adjustments as games come by.

“…With changes in the team, I don’t depend on few players so the eleven for tomorrow’s game shouldn’t be a problem,” Appiah said at a pre-match presser on Friday.

“Any team that we meet, we plan different strategies to be able to play with them,” he added.

Already, the Black Stars are without their most experienced defender John Boye following his red card in the opening day.

“Unfortunately, Boye cannot be part of the team [to face Cameroon]. But including him, we have five central defenders so his absence shouldn’t be a problem,” said Kwasi Appiah.

Winger Thomas Agyepong is also out for “4-5 days with a muscular problem.”

On the fitness of team captain Andre Ayew, the gaffer said he will be monitored at the final training session later in the afternoon. Ayew has had some discomfort around his ankle in the game against Benin and has since been unable to train with the team.

The Ghana-Cameroon clash kicks off 17:00 GMT.
