#FootyTransfers: Ghana’s James Kotei joins Kaizer Cheifs

Amakhosi have signed the defensive midfielder till summer 2022.

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of Ghana’s James Kotei.

The 25-year-old arrives as a free agent after completing a three-year stint with record Tanzanian champions Simba SC.

Kotei is expected to be part of a new-look Amahosi who have embarked on a mass summer clear-out which has seen the release of eight players in recent weeks.

The defensive midfielder penned a three-year deal with the side which has former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak trainer Ernst Middendorp as head coach.

Kaizer Chiefs announced the capture of the former Liberty Professionals player via Twitter Wednesday:

“Player Updates: Chiefs confirm Kotei.”

“Kaizer Chiefs have signed James Agyekum Kotei on a three-year contract. The 25-year-old defensive midfielder hails from Ghana.”

“He joins Amakhosi from Simba Sport Club in the Tanzanian Premier League.”

James Kotei played an important role in helping Simba clinch two successive Tanzanian Premier League titles. He also helped the side reach the quarterfinals of the 2018/19 Caf Champions League for the first time in the club’s history and was crowned Simba’s midfielder of the just ended season.
