Rwanda beat Ethiopia to seal final Chan 2018 spot
Rwanda have secured the last ticket to the 2018 Chan after a 3-2 aggregate win over Ethiopia.
The two sides played out a 0-0 second leg draw in Kigali on Sunday but the Amavubi had won 3-2 in the first leg away at Addis Ababa last week.
Rwanda who hosted the last Chan tournament in 2016 now take up the slot made vacant by Egypt who turned down an initial opportunity to replace stripped hosts Kenya.
Kenya lost the Chan 2018 hosting rights to Morocco for unpreparedness.
Caf first considered Egypt, who were eliminated by Morocco in the final round of North Africa Zone qualifiers for the slot but, the Egyptian FA turned down the offer citing congested domestic calendar.
CAF then handed back the opportunity to East Africa Zone – settling on Ethiopia and Rwanda for the playoff with the aggregate winner grabbing the slot.
The draw for the tournament which starts in January next year will be conducted in Rabat on November 17.
