AWCON 2016: Ghana duo named in CAF’s Best XI
Black Queens Captain Elizabeth Addo and Linda Eshun have been included in the Best XI of the just-ended Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon, a tournament in which the Queens finished 3rd. Janet Egyir and Portia Boakye have also been named as part of the six substitutes.
The tournament that took place in Cameroun ended on Saturday with Nigeria defending their title after an 85th from Striker Desire Oparanozie when they took on the host nation in the finals.
It was the third time after 2004 and 2014 that Nigeria had beaten Cameroon in the final and it further cements the Super Falcons’ status as the most dominant side in women’s football after previous triumphs in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2014.
Ghana on the other hand, won bronze when they defeated South Africa by a lone goal from defender Linda Eshun on the 48th minute at the Omnisports Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaoundé on Friday.
